Issue 15 - Restaurant Reviews |

How many of us eat out on a regular basis? I suspect that because we are all food lovers we are constantly on the look out for good food, presented with style and panache. We hate waiters with attitude and want to find restaurants in which we can feel comfortable and that know how to use fresh ingredients in a simple way. We know about food costs and dont want to be charged a small fortune unless the whole dining experience is absolutely peerless.
We would love to hear from you and we thank you in advance for sharing the names of your favourite restaurants and/or cafés. Once we get enough recommendations we will post the list on the site, so you too can benefit from yet another food service from your friends at Gourmet Shopper.

We would like to be greeted by name (not hard to do if you think about it) and to have a waiter who has taken the time to know about the food being served, is able to describe it well and help us make the right decision.
As strange as it seems, in these tough times when a new restaurant opens nearly every day and competition is fierce, these simple dining experiences are not always easy to come by. Of course those of us who live in a large city are much more likely to find restaurants that we like than those living in the country where good eating establishments are few and far between. But even if you do live a long way out of town, there are those times when you have to come to the city or a major country centre and we would like to help you eat well when you do.
We asked for your input for our list of Growers Markets and we would like to do the same for a restaurant list. As fellow gourmets, we all probably feel the same about the standards of the food we eat and we all like to be able to eat from a variety of cuisines so the field is wide open - as is the geography.
It isnt so long ago that the chances of getting a good meal once one left the confines of the major cities diminished in direct relationship to the kilometres travelled. This is no longer the case as many fine chefs have the cities behind searching for a better and less pressured lifestyle in the country. Because of this, many country towns have blossomed with food talent and they in turn are delighted to be able to source fresh, local ingredients straight from the surrounding farms. Food and wine festivals are springing up as towns look for ways to boost their economy and food and wine tourism is seen as an ideal way to do this.
Not only would we be delighted to receive your recommendations it would be extremely helpful to send us, in one or two lines, your assessment of the establishment. For example, you might say
.. Great coffee and service and try the local duck if it is on the menu. Because prices vary so much we would also be grateful if you could nominate whether the restaurant or café is value for money, medium priced or expensive which will act as a guide for prospective customers.
