A Journey for the Senses .....
The fundamental aspects of coffee tasting are the same as those for fine wine. We have prepared an easy guide of the basic terms used to describe specialty coffee characteristics. You will no doubt see the resemblance.
Acidity .....
Is an easily misunderstood term referring to the pleasant palate - cleansing sharpness of a coffee, akin to that of a dry white wine. It is a desirable characteristic of all high grown coffees, experienced primarily on the sides of the tongue.)
Body .....
Describes the sense of weight and texture of coffee in your mouth and can range from heavy and full to light and thin. Some coffees naturally have more body than others. Grinding and brewing methods have a significant influence on the perception of body with espresso and plunger methods yielding a more full sensation.
Flavour .....
This term, perhaps the most important describes the total impression of aroma, acidity and body delivered by a coffee.
Well balanced .....
When the qualities of acidity, body and flavour are in harmony, so that no one element predominates at the expense of another, coffee is said to be well balanced.
